Still time to celebrate Hispanic Heritage through SPL
Like many of us, my relationship with libraries goes back a long way.
Some of the best memories I have of my childhood involve my mother escorting me to the Bookmobile that would stop in our Corpus Christi, Texas, neighborhood. Or the Saturday afternoons on which my Naval officer father would take my two younger brothers and me to the base library.
Then there were the years that I attended the University of California, San Diego, and the hours I would spend haunting the stacks of what was is now called the Geisel Library
If all that isn’t enough, my ex-wife, with whom I’m still close, worked in libraries for the better part of three decades. I can still recall her during story hour at the North Spokane branch of the Spokane Country Library , entertaining children by reading to them about such characters as Babar the Elephant .
So, yeah, I have many ties to library life. Which is why I am happy to point out the many programs they sponsor – even if I sometimes am a little late with the news.
For example: Since Sept. 15th and on through Oct. 15th, the Spokane Public Library is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. As part of the celebration, the library is streaming several videos that focus on “Hispanic and Latinx culture,” and listings of books both for adults and children.
You’ve still got a few days to join in.
Háganlo. Y recuerden, mis amigos, la biblioteca es para siempre!
