Might be my last election

This may be my last election as well, as stated by Mavis Line (“Change is needed,” Oct. 8), though I am a mere 92 years young!

I was only 10 years old when WWII became real to me. My family of nine lived on a small country farm in Thornton, Texas. Hired help had simply ceased to exist. There was a call from the government for farms of any size to accept German prisoners of war to help farm. My father accepted some, ten perhaps twelve. That was an awfully long, unforgettable time ago.

The prisoners were children. None older than 12, we were told. All had surrendered to an American soldier who rather than taking them to a prison, asked that they be sent to America. He was from a small farm in Iowa.

These children were so emaciated we wondered how they were able to carry a gun. The first thing my father did was feed them. My younger sister and I simply stared. I do not recall how long those children stayed with us. However, I will never forget the joy we shared.

I cannot agree that Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris are the change this country needs. On the contrary, we will continue to enjoy vigorous and healthy job growth, economic well-being, and perhaps the most important, police will never again use the chokehold!

Listen carefully to what is being said by the Democrats, especially Ms. Pelosi. I am an independent voter who will definitely vote for President Trump and Vice President Pence.
