Incomprehensible

Sunday’s editorial endorsing Trump was not just disappointing, it was incomprehensible, considering “the long list of Trump offenses”, plus the ones not listed - his habitual lying, his refusal to confront Putin about bounties on American soldiers and general sucking up to despots while alienating allies.

The writer mistakenly credits Trump with a “flourishing” economy prior to the pandemic, when what actually occurred was a modest economic bump to an already strong Obama/Biden economy. A bump that was fueled by doubling the annual deficit to over a trillion dollars. Then it came crashing down when he seriously botched the COVID response.

His knowledge on health care and the environment is negligible and his policies are destructive. His long string of bankruptcies demonstrated his lack of business acumen. Suffice it to say he is devoid of character and competence.

Calling VP Biden a “tottering, doting uncle” - a man who served the public his entire adult life, a man who understands the U.S. government and foreign relations better than anyone, who has great depth and breadth of knowledge of economics and public policy, and who serves all Americans, not just his loyalists - is so incredibly underinformed about Joe’s policy plans that I suggest the editorialist do some serious upgrading before denigrating something he seems not to understand.

Although tempted, I will refrain from dropping my S-R subscription because most in the organization provide objective news and views. It is not, as Trump bloviates, an “enemy of the people.”
