Backing a con man

The Spokesman’s ownership group endorsed President Trump for the wrong reason. They claim that state of the economy is tied to Trump’s actions as president. The man tweets from his toilet, calls in to Fox News for two hours, flies to political rallies in Air Force One and then plays a round of golf at one of his resorts. How does any of that create a booming economy?

The Spokesman thinks the economy is Trump. What do they say to a laid-off tour bus driver, airline pilot, hotel receptionist, bartender, convention organizer and a hundred other occupations shut down by the pandemic?

President Trump wants everyone to open up and pick the economy over health. How do we pay for the trillions of dollars Congress allocated for COVID-19 relief? What about the next trillions soon to be allocated? How do we make up for all the lost revenue that funds our cities and states? How about another round of Trump tax cuts for the Spokesman’s owners?

A national economic reckoning is coming no matter who is the next president. A re-elected Trump will treat economic failure like all his other failed business enterprises. I invite the Spokesman owners to attend Trump University so they can learn how to run a paperless newspaper. Perhaps have a round of Trump vodka to wash down a Trump steak. You endorsed a con man.
