Disappointed in Mead SD
I am dismayed to read of Mead Schools opening this fall despite warnings against this from state and county health authorities. As a longtime Mead resident and parent, I hope the Mead school board will reconsider. To date, every school district I’m aware of that has reopened has had to re-close due to coronavirus outbreaks, and Mead will likely be forced to do the same – after spreading this deadly virus to more of Spokane’s people.
Mead board member Michael Cannon claims three-fourths of the Mead community wants this? I’m part of the Mead community and no one asked me. Meanwhile, another board member’s assertion that children are immune is both untrue and ignores the fact that children pass the virus to teachers, parents, neighbors, friends and relatives.
This is a pandemic, not a popularity contest. Hundreds of thousands are dying across our country, the raging center of this worldwide plague.
Mead, please heed warnings from the experts. Keep classrooms closed until the virus is under better control.
