Which is it?

Regarding Jeff Brooks’ letter on the danger of masks (Aug. 27):

Let’s see if I’ve got this right: Jeff says masks are ineffective barriers because viruses are too small and they simply pass through. In the next sentence he claims mask usage depresses the immune system by preventing contaminants from passing through. Which is it?
