CMR’s ‘conversion’

Alice White’s letter re: McMorris Rodgers now supporting a Balanced Budget Amendment is laughable (“Cathy and the budget,” Sept. 21).

Is this a derivative of Fox News or red Kool-Aid? When our representative entered Congress in 2005 the deficit was $554 billion. Thanks to the tax cuts McMorris Rodgers supported (and remember that 80% of those tax cuts went to the wealthiest 10%), our deficit went up to $1.217 trillion the first year after enacted, and $1.314 in 2019, long before COVID.

I am not falling for our representative’s classic bait-and-switch maneuver. The facts should matter in our lives and it is so easy to fact check. McMorris Rodgers has done enough damage in her 15 years in office, and her recent conversion should be viewed through the lens of her voting record.
