Ready yourself for an Auntie’s reading marathon

If the past year has offered me anything, it’s been the opportunity to read more.

Right now I’m reading three books: “The Devil’s Half Mile,” a Paddy Hrtsch mystery novel set in post-financial-panic 1799 New York; “Wolves,” an imaginative thriller by Simon Ings; and “Klara and the Sun,” another exercise in imagination by Nobel Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro.

I’m clearly not the only one reading more. Auntie’s Bookstore has announced that it will be hosting four new books clubs in September.

“Science and Nature with Teri”: Set to meet the first Tuesday of the month, the first meeting will be Sept. 7th at 6 p.m. First reading choice: “Entangled Life: How Fungi  Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds & Shape Our Futures” by Merlin Sheldrake.

“New Fiction with Claire”: Set to meet the second Thursday of the month, the first meeting will be Sept. 9th at 6 p.m. First reading choice: “True Story: A Novel” by Kate Reed Petty.

“Books in Translation with Jai”: Set to meet the third Friday of the month, the first meeting will be Sept. 24th at 7 p.m. First reading choice: “The Houseguest and Other Stories” by Mexican author Amparo Dávila (translated into Engoish by Matthew Gleeson and Audrey Harris).

“Sci-Fi and Fantasy with Ness”: Set to meet the fourth Saturday of the month, the first meeting will be Sept. 25th at 7 p.m. First reading choice: “The Empress of Salt and Fortune” by Nghi Vo.

Happy reading everybody.
