Levy funds opportunities

The Spokane Public Schools district levy funds so many indispensable programs and positions that directly benefit the children of Spokane, from nurses, counselors, custodians, behavior and intervention specialists to technology support, athletic programs, and Arts, Music & Drama classes.

As a traveling band specialist teacher in nine different north Spokane elementary buildings, I am privileged to have a large network of colleagues and personally know so many of the amazing individuals in these positions, who give their best each day to keep our students safe, healthy, loved, and to teach them new skills to help them grow and add to their lives in positive ways.

It is truly impossible to imagine or understate not only how many of these teachers and staff members’ lives would be impacted by the loss of these levy funds, but more importantly, what a large hole would be left in each of these buildings and the lives of so many students if these positions and programs were to be eliminated.

My wife and I are both proud alumni of Spokane schools, and now as parents, our children are just beginning to start school as SPS students, with our daughter currently in first grade, and our son entering kindergarten next year. We want to continue to ensure that all of these critical opportunities, services and role models are available for our kids, and for all children in Spokane. We will absolutely be voting Yes on this levy, and we encourage everyone to Vote Yes by February 9!
