You may have missed it. Or you might not care. But among all the Top 10 lists that came out regarding the movies of 2020, former President Barack Obama ’s was among them.
Apparently it’s something he does annually. And, apparently, I haven’t been paying attention.
Anyway, his list of 13 – yes, 13 – favorite movies is interesting: “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” “Beanpole,” “Bacurau,” “Nomadland,” “Soul,” “Lovers Rock,” “Collective,” “Mank,” “Martin Eden,” “Let Him Go,” “Time,” “Boys State,” “Selah and the Spades,” “Boys Camp.” (Of the lot, I’ve seen nine – and four were among my own favorites.)
Kino Now , the streaming section of the New York-based distribution house Kino Lorber, is particularly proud that three of Obama’s choices are films that it is streaming. On its website, it nearly gushes: “Thank you, Mr. President! (You have impeccable taste.)”
“(W)e have to admit we got a special thrill when we heard the news that three of our recent releases – “Bacurau,” “Beanpole,” and “Martin Eden” – were chosen by former President Barack Obama for a list of his Favorite Movies of 2020!” the website’s thank you continues. “(I)t’s a great honor to have these films we love included.”
You can rent or purchase all three by clicking here . The Russian film “Beanpole” and the Italian/French film “Martin Eden” cost $4.99 to rent, $12.99 to purchase. The Brazilian film “Bacurau” is available for rent only, at $12.
If you do decide to do business with Kino Now, make sure to tell them Obama sent you. Maybe they’ll give you a further discount.
At the very least they’ll have to agree that you, too, have impeccable taste.
