Want to be a podcaster? Listen to the McElroy brothers

I began writing this blog back in 2003, right about the time that such platforms really started to become popular.

The thing is, blogs are about writing. Or mostly, anyway (we bloggers do, when it’s appropriate, add in photos and videos and other fun stuff).

But mostly there’s the writing. And if writing is the main purpose, then the flip side requires reading. And as is all too clear, reading isn’t exactly a high priority in 2021.

Which is one of the reasons why podcasts have become so popular.

The difference is that anyone can write a blog. Just go on some how-to blogging website, sign up and start pecking away. Starting up a podcast takes a little more effort.

That’s one main reason why the McElroy brothers – Justin, Travis and Griffin – wrote a book titled “Everybody Has a Podcast (Except You): A How-To Guide from the First Family of Podcasting.” Other reasons are varied, at least some having to do with why anyone does anything – for money, for fame or merely for self-gratification.

Whatever, the brothers will be featured in a “crowdcast” (there’s a new word for you) book launch scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday. Those who choose to purchase the book through Auntie’s Bookstore will receive a “special bookplate” signed by the McElroys.

The book, by the way, will guide readers “through the process of turning an idea into ear-candy, sharing their expertise on everything from deciding on an effective name (definitely not something like My Brother, My Brother and Me) and what type of microphone to use (definitely not the one from the video game Rock Band), to making lots and lots of money (spoiler: you probably won’t).”

The humor contained in that quote reflects the authors’ basic tone, though the information they share is serious, indeed.

As they will explain if you tune into the event – which, of course, will save you from having to read anything … though they clearly hope you still will. Or, at any rate, buy.
