Outage unfair to Hillyard
This letter is in regard to the disregard of the families in the Hillyard neighborhood, Monday, June 28, by Avista.
I lost my power at 1:45 pm, notified Avista at 1:50. I was asked if I had heard a loud boom, or if I had a power line down? I replied, “No” to both. I was told they were looking into what had happened. The next bit of info I received stated that power should be restored by 4:30. 4:30 came and went and still no power.
Soon after, I learned that the outage was intentional and the majority of those affected were in the low-income neighborhoods of Spokane. My power was out just over 7 hours, coming back on at 8:50. Why weren’t we worth the trouble of a notification.
I’m proud to live in Hillyard. A huge part of my family’s history lies in the railroad town before it was annexed by Spokane in 1924, and after.
My point is, people are people, no matter where they live, and should be given the same respect and notifications as anyone. We have as much pride as anyone.
