Friday’s openings should include a bit of ‘Sparks’

I’ve already written about one of the films that opens on Friday. It’s the documentary “Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It,” which will play at both the Magic Lantern Theatre and AMC River Park Square.
I’ve actually also written about the other film that will open wide on Friday. It’s the comedy-action feature “The Hitman’s Wife’s Boduguard,” starring Ryan Reynolds, Salma Hayek and Samuel L. Jackson.
Other than those two, other things you can look forward to this weekend:
The continuing “Fast Friday” series: This Friday’s feature will be 2017’s “The Fate of the Furious,” the eighth episode in the franchise. Directed by F. Gary Gray, this episode features Charlizxe Theron as the cyberterrorist Cipher, with whom Dom and his “family” must do battle.
“The Sparks Brothers” : Directed by Edgar Wright , this documentary looks at the career of Ron and Russell Meal, musicians who perform under the name Sparks . Including interviews with a wide range of other performers, it examines – in a typical Wright way – the influence the band has had on the whole of pop music. Playing exclusively at AMC River Park Square.
Some comments:
Ann Hornaday, Washington Post: “Even more than an extravagant dive into pop arcana, this film is valuable as a moving testament to perseverance, uncompromising principles and incorruptible character.”
Stephanie Zacharek , Time: “ ‘The Sparks Brothers’ runs a whopping two hours and 15 minutes, though it feels as fleet as a three-minute pop song.”
Jordan Hoffman , The Guardian: “Wright knows some people won’t want to watch a long documentary about a band they’ve never heard of, so he’s sure to keep it funny and alive at every possible turn.”
Sound like fun. So go, see a movie. And enjoy
