In an uncertain time, simple pleasures can suffice

Word regarding the new coronavirus variant, called Omicron, is making headlines all over the world. Just as things seemed to be settling down, this new threat is causing world-wide concern.

And rightly so. Yet aside from getting vaccinated, wearing a mask and making sure to keep your distance from strangers, what are you supposed to do?

Most of us are trying to find a way to continue our lives, working, shopping for essentials and doing normal, every-day activities.

The lucky ones among us have found a way to do all that and still travel, while still taking the necessary precautions. Two of those people are Leslie Kelly and her husband John Nelson.

I’ve written about the couple before. They are former colleagues of mine at The Spokesman-Review. And they continue to write for the paper, in their regular column they co-write in the Going Mobile section .

Both also write for other publications, documenting their life on the road. Kelly’s latest piece for Forbes.com concerns food and other pleasures that they discovered during their recent stay in Arizona.

One particular prize was Bisbee, the “thriving arts community” that has been built on what once was a mining town. And it was at the Le Cornucopia Café that Kelly ate a particularly good meatloaf sandwich.

“When the order was delivered, the eye candy verdict was wow!” she wrote. “And double wow: How was I going to stuff that tall sandwich into my pie hole? The hunk of meatloaf was at least three inches thick. Beyond the biggest burgers I’ve seen on the juiciest food porn Instagram feeds.”

It’s nice to know that even during this pandemic, there is still joy to be found – even if it is in something as simple as a sandwich.
