Say hello to your digital friend … on Friday

I’ve already written that Friday’s big movie opening will be Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of the Frank Herbert science-fiction novel “Dune.”
But it isn’t the only film opening on Friday. Here are two others:
“Ron’s Gone Wrong” : Young Barney has a new friend, the digital concoction Ron. But when Ron doesn’t meet Barney’s expectations, lessons in tolerance and friendship are in the offering. An animated film, “Ron’s Gone Wrong” features the voices of Jack Dylan Grazer, Zach Galifianakis and Olivia Colman, among others.
Pat Padua of the Washington Post wrote, “The debut feature from British studio Locksmith Animation, ‘Ron’s Gone Wrong’ has plenty of slapstick and potty humor for kids. But adults will also be intrigued by its frequently scathing (albeit somewhat conflicted) critique of consumerism.”
“Golden Voices”: In 1990, a Jewish couple emigrates from Russia to Israel and both struggle to make a living as they always have, as voice dubbers for Soviet film – a job for which there is little need in their new home country. In Russian and Hebrew with English subtitles.
Nel Minnow of RogerEbert.com wrote, “This is very evidently a personal story for the people who made it, a heartfelt note of thanks for the fresh start they found in their new home, and for all fresh starts and the people with the courage to find them.”
“Golden Voices,” by the way, will play exclusively at the Magic Lantern Theatre. “Ron’s Gone Wrong,” though, likely will play at your favorite mainstream theater.
So go, see a movie. And enjoy.
