Mead District needs Gray’s voice

I would like to respond to Gayle Corativo’s letter from Oct 10 (“Green the superior candidate”), regarding the race for Mead School Board between Carmen Green and BrieAnne Gray.

To be blunt, Ms. Corativo is not only wrong but she is out of step with the majority of Mead voters. A school board race isn’t a contest to see who has more individual volunteer hours; both candidates have volunteered plenty. School board directors need to represent their community. They need to have a high-level perspective and be able to lead through all sorts of financial, policy and leadership decisions that affect thousands of students, staff, families and community members. In this regard, Carmen Green’s record betrays her.

Gayle and the few others seem to equate good decisionmaking with appeals to emotionalism. Green uses phrases like “trust is important” and claims she will “represent all students,” yet her record of creating the worst budget deficit in years and then trying to fix it by closing programs and schools does not convey trust or equal representation.

I’d also like to point out to readers that BrieAnne has children currently enrolled within the district. Which, in my opinion, is a much-needed element to accurately represent our school district.

BrieAnne Gray will provide a fresh perspective and better leadership with better results.

The majority of Mead voters want change on the board and BrieAnne is the one to bring that change. She’s already proven to be the voice of the people, for the people.
