It’s still too early to come up with a definitive list of what will be opening Friday at local movie theaters. But we do know that a couple of mainstream releases will be available for the coming week.
“Moonfall” : Best known for the 1996 alien-invasion thriller “Independence Day,” director Roland Emmerich returns with this sci-fi look at three characters intent on saving Earth. The threat? Something has knocked the moon off orbit and sent it careening toward our home planet. Teaming up, the three – played by Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson and John Bradley – embark on their own private mission, which soon becomes complicated by forces they couldn’t foresee.
No major critics have commented as yet. And the ones that have aren’t particularly complimentary.
“ ‘Moonfall’ isn’t the worst film Emmerich has made, but it’s close,” wrote Brian Orndorf of Blu-ray.com. “This sloppy sci-fi flick has more holes in its plot than craters on the moon,” wrote Carla Hay of Culture Mix.
“Jackass Forever” : Following the television series and the 2002 original “Jackass: The Movie,” 2006’s “Jackass Number Two” and 2010’s “Jackass 3D,” Johnny Knoxville and his rowdy boys return for their final idiotic go-round .
Again, no advance commentaries have been published by legitimate critics. But click here to get a pretty good idea of what to expect.
More later, when the offerings become a bit more settled.
