And then then came the horror flick, ‘The Cursed’

Along with the features “Uncharted” and “Dog,” which I wrote about yesterday , another mainstream movie will open on Friday.

Its title: “The Cursed.”

Written and directed by Sean Ellis, the film – which is also known under the title “Eight for Silver” – is set in the 19th-century French countryside. Boyd Holbrook portrays a pathologist who comes to a small village to investigate reports of supernatural activity. The quest forces him to face up to some personal, uh, demons of his own.

It’s been attracting some fairly decent reviews. Among them:

Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times calls the film “A creepy, stylish horror gem rooted in history.”

Fionnuala Halligan of Screen International wrote, “It’s inventive enough to surprise, while still bringing with it fond memories of everything from Hammer to ‘The Innocents,’ ‘Dracula’ to creepy country house Gothic horror.”

Brian Tallerico of RogerEbert.com wrote, “ ‘Eight for Silver’ really gets under your skin, and it feels dangerous and dirty.”

That’s the lot. So go, see a movie, and enjoy. In the case of “The Cursed,” enjoy the shivers.
