Friday’s openings: Tunes, horror, tales of a tower

If you look below, you’ll see that I’ve already written about a couple of the movies that will be opening in area theaters on Friday: “Walk With Me” and “Crimes of the Future.”

But they aren’t the only openings, so read on:

“Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story” : Co-directed by Frank Marshall and Ryan Suffern, this documentary captures not just the annual music festival but the cultural history – and enduring nature – of New Orleans itself. Some of the feature acts include Bruce Springsteen, Katy Perry, Jimmy Buffet, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Irma Thomas, Aaron Neville and many others.

The Wrap critic Steve Pond wrote, “In the end, ‘Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story” is a movie to approach the same way you approach the festival: Move quickly, don’t worry about what you miss and rejoice in the funky delights in front of you.”

“Watcher” : New to town, where a serial killer is stalking women, Julia (Maika Monroe) suspects that a neighbor is spying on her.

Critic Tomris Laffly wrote, “Left with no resources but her own intuition, Monroe’s Romanian expat navigates a foreign town, dismissive mansplainers, and obstructive language barriers to fend for her own life in a stunning gaslighting whodunit, against a blood-curdling villain for the ages.”

“Eiffel” : Working from a team-written screenplay, director Martin Bourbolon constructs an imaginative story about the man, Gustave Eiffel (Romain Duris), who built Paris’ Eiffel Tower.

Critic Julian Roman wrote, “ ‘Eiffel’ mixes equal parts national hero with sizzling attraction. Laces are loosened and corsets fly as passionate kisses quicken pulses. Director Martin Bourboulon gets top marks for a beautifully made film that captures intimacy and grandeur.”

That’s it. Time to go see a movie. And enjoy.
