Four authors celebrate forgotten women in history

I’ve already written that March is Women’s History Month. So it comes as no surprise that Auntie’s Bookstore is advertising a women’s history event that will occur tomorrow.

The virtual event is designed to celebrate forgotten women in history.

Four authors – Marie Benedict, Kate Moore, Heather Webb and Katharine Gregorio – will engage in an online discussion with host Mary O’Malley , a bookseller at the Columbia, MO-based Skylark Bookshop.

Benedict is the author of “Her Hidden Genius: A Novel,” which tells the story of Rosalind Franklin, an English scientist whose work was important in the understanding of DNA.

Webb wrote “The Next Ship Home: A Novel of Ellis Island,” which centers on the struggle of two women – one an Italian immigrant, the other an American who aims to become a translator – who battle a corrupt system.

Moore’s book is “The Women They Could Not Silence: One Woman, Her Incredible Fight for Freedom, and the Men Who Tried to Make Her Disappear,” which introduces Elizabeth Pickard, a woman who battled against the men who tried to keep her confined to a mental institution.

And Gregorio wrote “The Double Life of Katharine Clark: The Untold Story of the Fearless Journalist Who Risked Her Life for Truth and Justice,” which tells the story of the first American wire reporter behind what was then called the Iron Curtain.
