The coming movie week seems to be one of those occasions when there’s a little bit of something for nearly everyone.
The openings include:
“Barbarian” : When a young woman (Georgina Campbell) finds a guy (Bill Skarsgård) in the house she’s rented, she pretty quickly discovers that some pretty horrific stuff is going on.
No advance reviews as yet. Seldom a good sign.
“Medieval” : Ben Foster stars as the Czech warrior Jan Zizka whose legendary fight against corruption pitted him against 14th-century nobility.
Variety critic Dennis Harvey wrote, “On its own up-to-the-moment stylistic terms, ‘Medieval’ works just fine.”
“Bhramastra Part One: Shiva” : When he learns that he has the power to awaken the ancient supernatural weapon Bhramastra, a DJ (Ranbir Kapoor) finds himself in a battle with the queen of dark forces. In Hindi with English subtitles.
No advance reviews as yet. (See “Barbarian” above.)
“Lifemark” : An 18-year-old boy’s life gets complicated when the birthmother he has never known seeks to meet him.
According to the family-oriented website movieguide.org , the film “is a well-made, heartwarming, inspiring movie produced by the Kendrick Brothers and Kirk Cameron, who also stars. The movie is solid throughout, with a positive Christian worldview.”
That’s it for the moment. I’ll update as the week progresses.
