In advance of Halloween candy comes ‘The Clackity’
Everyone has a favorite holiday. For some, it’s Christmas. For others, July 4th. For some whom I know personally, their birthdays.
Every hear the term “royalty week”? It’s a birthday reality to some.
But then there are those who prefer Halloween. When I was a kid, it meant streets full of other kids, dressed in costumes, going house to house to get candy.
And that tradition extended to when I was the father of an elementary-school-age girl.
Because of the pandemic and other issues, such candy-gathering has declined in recent years – though the candy still fills the shelves of local grocery stores as much as ever.
Halloween, too, will be the focus of an author’s event Saturday at Auntie’s Bookstore . Lora Senf will appear live in the store at 5:30 p.m. in support of her young-adult novel “The Clackity.”
The store is explaining the novel like this: “Reminiscent of ‘Doll Bones,’ this deliciously eerie middle grade novel tells the story of a girl who must enter a world of ghosts, witches, and monsters to play a game with deadly consequences and rescue her aunt.”
According to the book-review site Kirkus , “the skilled storytelling will keep readers spellbound and spooked.”
But will it keep kids and their parents away from the candy? Doubtful.
