Friday just might be a big day for movie releases, though it’s difficult to say with such films as “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” still doing well.
Regardless, here are three of Friday’s potential openings:
“The Pope’s Exorcist” : Russell Crowe stars as the title character, a priest called in to investigate a young boy’s “possession” only to uncover a long-held Vatican secret. Based very loosely on a true story. Crowe has wandered far from his Oscar days.
“Mafia Mama” : Tony Collette stars as a woman who, having inherited her Mafia don grandfather’s estate, find herself also taking over his criminal empire. Yes, it’s a comedy.
“Renfield” : Nicholas Hoult stars as Bram Stoker’s fictional character who is in legion to Dracula (played by Nicolas Cage). He becomes friends with a cop played by Awkafina. The trailer looks funny.
That’s it for the moment. I’ll update as the week progresses.
