Coming in May to Netflix: a few favorite films

More and more, we’ve taken to streaming movies and TV shows. The range of what’s available, from classic films to international crime series, is amazing across the board.
Of course, that all depends on whether you’re willing to pay those pesky monthly fees to such services as Netflix, Amazon Prime, the Disney+ bundle that includes Hulu and ESPN … and more.
But for some of us, the expense is worth it. And, ultimately, far cheaper than what we pay to see movies in theaters (though, yeah, we do that, too).
For example, here are some of the movies (my favorites) that will be coming to Netflix on May 1 :
“42” (2013): The late Chadwick Boseman stars as baseball great/pioneer Jackie Robinson.
“A River Runs Through It” (1992): Brad Pitt stars in this Robert Redford-directed adaptation of the Norman Maclean novella.
“Dirty Harry” (1971): the first of the Dirty Harry films starring Clint Eastwood, this one directed by Don Siegel.
“Once Upon a Time in America” (1984): The great Sergio Leone directed this look at early 20th-century gangsters in New York, starring Robert De Niro, James Woods and Elizabeth McGovern.
“When Harry Met Sally” (1989): Rob Reiner directed Nora Ephron’s script about the friendship-turned-romance between Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan).
“You’ve Got Mail” (1998): Nora Ephron directed a screenplay she co-wrote that features Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan (again) as characters who engage in an online romance when, unknowingly, they are business rivals in real life.
To paraphrase Gale Snoats , so many streaming choices, so little time.
