It would be unusual to see an alligator wearing a vest. It would be even stranger to encounter two vest-wearing alligators attempt to solve crimes.
But that’s exactly what occurs in John Patrick Green ’s “InvestiGators” six-book series, which began in 2020 with “InvestiGators.”
The inaugural book focused on a pair of S.U.I.T. (Special Undercover Investigation Team) agents whose gadget-filled V.E.S.T.s (Very Exciting Spy Technology) help them track down a missing chef and his secret recipes.
A Kirkus reviewer described the first book this way: “With its rampant good-natured goofiness and its unrelenting fizz and pep, this feels like a sugar rush manifested as a graphic novel.”
A reviewer for Publishers Weekly called the book “Fast-paced fun for the bad pun and dorky joke crowd: ‘Now let’s flush ourselves down the nearest toilet and GATER DONE!’ ”
Publishers Weekly also reports that the series overall has been published in eight languages and has seen more than 1.5 million copies in print.
Green will appear in person at 6 tonight at the Spokane Public Central Library in support of the first of a spin-off series titled “Agents of S.U.I.T.” Green co-authors the new series with Christopher Hastings (illustrations by Pat Lewis).
Tonight’s event, which is co-sponsored by Auntie’s Bookstore , is free and open to the public. Masks are encouraged but not required.
