We’re well into the summer movie season, so it’s only natural to expect movies made for our eternal 14-year-old selves will open in any given week.

This coming week will see the release of two sterling examples.

“The Flash” : Caught up in his ability to time travel and change the past, Barry Allen faces a big problem when he inadvertently changes the future. To right things, he must turn to altered version of Batman and others.

David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter wrote, “If ‘The Flash’ ultimately proves uneven, its wobbly climactic showdown far less interesting than the more character-driven buildup, the story’s core of a young man struggling to reconcile with the loss of his mother carries it through.”

“Elemental” : A Disney/Pixar production, “Elemental” focuses on a pair of friends, Ember and Wade, start to question what’s up in Element City, a place where fire, water, land and air residents share living space.

Ben Croll of TheWrap wrote, “Here is a new spin on the old formula, livened up by advances in technology and delivered with real artistry. The film is full of complex and volatile parts, all held together in the most elemental of containers.”

I’ll update as the week progresses.
