Note : “One Fine Morning” will not open Friday at the Magic Lantern Theatre, as previously announced. “Juniper,” starring Charlotte Rampling, and “Champions” will.
“Juniper” : Rampling plays a former war correspondent who, thrown together with her obstreperous, teenage grandson, forms an improbable bond with the boy. Written and directed by Matthew J. Saville .
Beatrice Loayza of the New York Times wrote, “The film … maintains some of its prickly charm, in no small part because of the feisty Rampling, whose ice-queen persona here straddles bone-dry humor and withering tragedy.”
“Champions” : Woody Harrelson stars as a coach court-ordered to oversee a team of kids with intellectual disabilities. In true “Hoosiers” fashion, he comes to realize that they can be what the film’s title suggests.
Frank Scheck of the Hollywood Reporter wrote, ” ‘Champions’ feels overly familiar. But that doesn’t make this sure-to-be crowd-pleaser any less winning, especially with the endlessly likable Harrelson at its center.”
I’ll update as the week progresses.
