Friday’s openings: Another chance to ‘Scream’

Horror franchises have become all too common. To the “Halloween,” “Friday the 13th” and “Nightmare on Elm Street” collections, you can add a “Scream” or (now) six.

“Scream VI” opens on Friday, along with several other films, most of them intended for mainstream audiences. The list follows:

“Scream VI” : Courteney Cox returns, but she is joined by a whole new (and younger) cast as the action moves to New York City. But Ghostface is still killing people.

“65” : Marooned on Earth of 65 million years ago, a pilot (Adam Driver) joins forces with a young girl (Ariana Greenblatt) in an attempt to survive.

“Jesus Revolution” : Two contrasting cultural groups, conservative religious types and members of the hippie generation, come together in 1970s America.

“Southern Gospel” : When his rock ’n’ roll dreams are dashed, a rocker reverts to his original ambition for becoming a preacher.

“The Quiet Girl” : In 1981 Ireland, a young girl is taken from her dysfunctional and sent to live with a secret-carrying foster family.

“Champions” : I wrote about this film on Wednesday.

“The Magic Flute” : A London teenager travels to Austria to attend the Mozart boarding school and is introduced to the true magic of the long-dead master.

“Unwelcome” :  More horror, this time involving a young married couple who settle in rural Ireland only to be confronted by … goblins?
