Bad Teacher’ belongs in detention
Returning to Earth (see post immediately below), we have “Bad Teacher. ” OK, couple of giggles. But … this is a comic film that had some potential. Maybe even “There’s Something About Mary” potential. It does star Cameron Diaz, after all, and she has proven comic talent.
But, no. It’s directed by Jake Kasdan, the guy who previously gave us “Orange County” (a movie so bad that it almost ended Colin Hanks’ career before it began and helped launch Jack Black, a dubious achievenemt) and “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story” (a semi-lame parody of “Walk the Line”). And it’s written by Gene Stupintsky and Lee Eisenberg, the guys who have given us “Year One” and a lot of “The Office” episodes.
So, yeah, Giggles. Maybe even a guffaw or two. But mostly a lazy, one-note script that is both raunchy and gutless and that limps to a finish with more suplots left hanging than Jason Momoa once had dreds.
Why Jason Momoa? Sorry, lately I’ve become obsessed with “Stargate Atlantis.” But that’s another blog post.
