Nicole Kidman has won me over. In Stephen Daldry’s film “The Hours,” she does an Oscar-deserving job of portraying Virginia Woolf.

However, photos of Woolf herself show that, in terms of appearance, at least, Nicole Kidman was a poor choice to portray the more plain-looking writer.

Beauty, of course, is a relative notion. But try as the might, the makeup artists who applied a prosthetic nose on Kidman still couldn’t diminish the actress’ natural good looks.
