This ‘Clockwork’ is the best, my brothers
I wrote a post below about how much I enjoyed borrowing a copy of Anthony Burgess’ novel “A Clockwork Orange,” as read by Tom Hollander, from Spokane Public Library. I recommended the book to my friend Ross Coble, and this is how he responded:
“Oh, my bother, it was horrror-show!”
Translation: Hey, pal, it was really good.
“Thanks for telling me about it,” he continued. “I barely remember the film version. The audio version is much more memorable … maybe I have changed, maybe the reading was better than the visual for me, maybe something else. I do think that this audiobook was better than the printed version.”
He signed his e-mail as “Dim,” the name of one of the protaginist’s “droogs,” or fellow gang members.
Somewhere, Burgess has to be laughing to himself.
