Highlander’ first, then … killer aliens!

Back in Spokane, following a quick trip to Washington, D.C., and I’m ready to see some movies. It’s way too early for the summer season, but one of the first blockbusters — “Battle: Los Angeles” — opened today. So maybe that’s a good place to start.

For the moment, though, I’m sitting at home, watching “Highlander: Endgame,” another attempt by Christopher Lambert to extend what has been a perfectly ragged movie career. At the moment, actually, I’m watching the end of him. Or, at least, his character.

Which leaves the franchise — or what’s left of it — to Adrian Paul, the British actor who starred in the television series based on the original “Highlander” film (1986). The series, which ran from 1992-99, is still showing on late-night cable channels, showed Paul to be a reasonable facsimile of a martial artist (though, like Jason Statham, he got his start as a model).

This film is pretty bad. Which makes it pretty good in my book. Now for some “Battle: Los Angeles.”
