For lunch, we enjoyed a Great Harvest

Ah, was a time that the only specialty bread worth buying in Spokane was made by the Great Harvest Bread Co. The downtown location gave way to what is now the trendy eatery Moxie, so to get those thick, tasty loaves of honey-wheat and other types of bread these days you have to head toward Lincoln Heights.

Which is where we drove today, and the attached photo shows you what we ordered for lunch: In the foreground you see a turkey and provolone sandwich on Dakota bread (100 percent whole grain bread blended with pumpkin seeds , sunflower seeds , millet , and sesame seeds ); behind, you can see an egg-salad sandwich, also on Dakota bread, with a side of soup and a Diet Pepsi.

So while it was a surprise to discover that the store no longer makes bagels, it was nice to know that the bread hasn’t lost a bit of its tastiness. No wonder I’m having a hard time dropping the extra pounds I picked up over Christmas.
