The Slice

When the dress code takes on a life of its own

Dennis DeMattia noticed an item in a recent Slice column.

"I too went to Catholic schools (18 years through grad school) and wore my fair share of uniforms. I found it made life quite easy to wear the same stuff every day. When I went to work for Kaiser, I continued the tradition -- black pants, white shirt (the only exception being when I wore a suit to work one Halloween).

"Anyway, as an adult, I went to a friend's cabin on Priest Lake. I was launching my boat at Coolin when I had to make a phone call (pre cell days). As I was walking to the little store there to use their phone booth, another guy was heading in the same direction. He said 'You go first, you must be here on business' (seeing my white business shirt). I said no, I was just here on vacation. He then asked, 'Did you go to a Catholic school?'"
