The Slice

If the S-R took a cue from Comcast

S-R staffers who work in the newsroom are familiar with unhappy customers.

That comes with the territory. Someone even complained the other day about Dan Pelle's fun photo of that South Hill snowman that appeared to be swallowing someone.

But the newsroom does not handle subscription billing. So if we wanted to follow the lead of that one Comcast retention specialist and change the name of customers on their bills, we would have to enlist the cooperation of our friends in the Circulation Department.

"Steve? Hi, this Dave up in editorial. Say, I just got off the phone with a tiresome reader. His name is Basketball Jones. Could you change that on his next statement to Asshole Jones? Thanks. Appreciate it."

I'll bet eventually that practice would generate a strongly worded memo from management.

Anyway, I am pretty sure there is already a rule about not changing names that way in news stories, though we've all been tempted.
