The Slice

When the viewing platform on Bloomsday press truck collapsed

Do you remember?

It was in 1988.

And it happened just as the elite runners started on Riverside. The press truck lurched forward and a platform made of wood came apart. Photographers and others were spilled onto the street directly in front of the elite runners.

I don't recall anyone being hurt. But I remember S-R photographer Shawn Jacobson hit the ground running and started taking pictures almost instantly.
