The Slice

Spokane and white SUVs

So I was walking over to the post office when I heard someone call my name.

I looked up and saw a man waving at me from an open driver's side window. His vehicle was traveling in the same direction I was headed.

I came up with the best reply I could, given the time constraints.

"Hey!"

But I couldn't really tell who it was. You see, the waving man was driving a white SUV. And everyone I know in Spokane has a white SUV.

Well, not quite everyone.

A friend was telling me not long ago that she is inheriting an SUV. I think she said it's maroon. And that made me think of the scene in "Lost in Translation" where Bill Murray's character is looking, with a minimum of enthusiasm, at several dozen paint-color cards his wife has sent him so he can weigh in on some urgent home-decor decision while he is in Japan.

His wife has made it known that she likes burgundy. And Murray is staring at the cards, muttering "Which one is burgundy?"

But now that I think of it, my friend inheriting the SUV might have said it is black cherry.

So that's one person in Spokane I know who will not have a white SUV.

How about you?
