Let’s see your holiday house
The Spokesman-Review has already started its annual roundup of
holiday light displays
. That’s where readers can submit information about a house that’s decorated with twinkling lights, animated toy soldiers and the like, and then that information can be used as a guide for folks who want to plan a route and take a drive to see the displays.
I love watching as the list of decorated houses grows and then finally heading out one night with the fam, peppermint latte in hand, and taking it all in.
The drive to preschool the last few days, though, has had me rubber necking not at light displays (duh, it’s daytime) but at the other ways people decorate their homes. Wreaths, garland, swags, ribbon, wooden cutouts of reindeer. I love it all, and luckily my daughters aren’t old enough yet to be sick of me oohing and ahhing my way through town (I even get an ocassional “That’s boodyfull!” followed by, “Can we live there?”)
So how about this. On a smaller scale than the S-R’s holiday lights database, let’s do our best to show off some of the beautiful non-illuminated decorations around town. I’ll keep my camera on hand and snap photos when a house catches my eye, and you do the same. Don’t be shy—show me pictures of your own home’s holiday decor, too.
You can send the photos to megan.cooley@comcast.net.
I’ll get us started with the shot above of a darling cottage near 31st and Manito Boulevard. It feels so warm and inviting, I could walk right in and start knitting by the fire.
If you know the homeowners there, please assure them that I won’t do that. I don’t know how to knit.
