It’s Clint, The Mouse and not much else

It looked for a while there as if the fall was going to offer us a lot of good movies. But things cooled down quicker than Parker Posey’s box-office appeal. And this week is no better.

Sure, the Clint Eastwood film “Invictus” is opening. And it might turn out to be pretty good, far better than its cheesy sports film pedigree would suggest. But that title? I know that it’s symbolic (both for being the Latin word for “invincible” and being the title of a British poem), but it’s definitely a bit of a mouthful.

But the other film is the Disney offering “The Princess and the Frog,” which seems to be a shameless ripoff of The Mouse’s best films of the past. Could be good, but … I’m not holding my breath.

And that’s it. Looking forward to Dec. 18, which is when James Cameron’s “Avatar” opens. Now that’s worth marking on the calendar.
