You feeling lucky?

Tricia Jo Webster

This is it — your last opportunity to take a chance on Christmas.

The Christmas Tree Elegance folks will draw the 12 lucky tree winners tonight at 9:30, which means you have almost 12 hours to get to the Davenport and lay your money down. One measly dollar is all it takes. Grab a coffee in the lobby, or a cocktail from the Peacock (it’s twelve o’clock somewhere, my friends) and traipse around the mezzanine with visions of sugarplums dancing through your head.

I’m meeting mom at the Dav in a few minutes. She’s the one who introduced me to this Christmas tradition, years and years ago. For almost two decades we’ve been dropping our tickets into tree boxes, then crossing our fingers. Neither of us have won. Neither of us have ever known anyone who’s won. You think we’d catch a clue and give up. Every year we tell each other this’ll be our year. Thus far we’ve had to laugh off our giddy Christmas sprit and chalk the losing streak up to each year’s transgressions (Santa always finds out — he’s all-knowing). But this year, I’m feeling lucky. And, damn it, we’re due.

Here are some details from a few of my favorite 2009 trees …

Tree #1: Spotlight on Spokane; Tree #10: A Perfect “10”; Tree #2: Let The Games Begin!
