Religious rules go back eons
In answer to Sandy Tarbox’s question in her letter of June 10, “Religion on offensive”: Religious beliefs have become the law of the land since Moses received the Ten Commandments. “Thou shall not kill” and “Thou shall not steal” didn’t just pop out of thin air. God gave us those laws in the Bible.
The founders of our country were Christians whose main influence was the Bible. George Washington said, “It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.” Also, Abraham Lincoln said, “In regard to this Great Book, I have but to say, it is the best gift God has given to man. But for it we could not know right from wrong.”
From the founders’ writings it’s obvious that they did not and would not “base our country” on the separation of church and state. Not only that, the constitutions of all 50 states make some reference to God and/or divine providence. Separation is a myth perpetuated by anti-Christian people who learned history from revisionist textbooks.
No one is forcing Sandy to accept their views. This is a free country (for now, anyway), and she can believe in God – or not.
