A quick note here at halftime with WSU trailing 35-17. The Bears hit WSU with about three big right hands in the first quarter and knocked the Cougars to the canvas. But they got up and, with a couple good drives and one big play, cut into the Cal lead at the half. … When given time, Jeff Tuel showed he can throw an accurate, on-time ball. … The 28 points WSU gave up in the first quarter was the most it has given up to open a game in Paul Wulff’s tenure.
