Nice guy recommends a good read

Just received the following e-mail recommendation of a book from a nice guy I met the other morning:

Hi Dan,

I’m Bill Belknap, Gail Goeller’s cousin who had breakfast with you this morning. The book I was telling you about is “The Last Refuge: Patriotism, Politics, and the Environment in an Age of Terror” [How do you underline on a Mac?] by David W. Orr. Auntie’s Bookstore in Spokane had a paperback copy on the shelf today ($15).

To give a bit of the flavor here is my paraphrase of his four challenges of sustainability (one of the chapters): “New models, metaphors and metrics for relating the human enterprise to the biosphere. Better governance to take care of and forestall problems. Education to give understanding of what needs to be done. Spirituality to care enough to pass on a sustainable future.”

It was very nice to meet you and Jim and John this morning – hope to see you again next year.

Bill
