This Brando never made headlines
It’s not easy being the sibling of a famous actor, especially when you act yourself. But Jocelyn Brando , who died Sunday at the age of 86 , never seemed to care all that much.
While her far-better-known brother Marlon seemed to attract attention no matter what he did, from acting in such films as “A Streetcar Named Desire” and “On the Waterfront” to sending in a substitute in Native American dress to refuse an Oscar, Jocelyn Brando contented herself acting on the stage and in a few movies but mostly on television.
And she seemed as calm about career as was her talented bro. As she once said in an interview, “I asked him for a tip about pictures, and he answered, ‘Oh, I just say the words. That’s all I know about picture acting.’ He probably was smart at that to let me find my own way.”
Funny. Brando may have been clever, and her certainly was skilled, but he wasn’t particularly smart at anything else – except for giving his sis that slightest bit of acting advice.
Below : Jocelyn Brando’s movie career amounted to little more than fifth billing on B movies.
