This weekend’s Funky Junk Antique Show

Megan Cooley

Last week, I mentioned that the Funky Junk Antique Show was coming up and promised to track down more information about it. I just spoke with Hollie Eastman, who organizes the show with Jennifer Wood.

Hollie fell in love with antiques—especially objects from the 1940s and ‘50s—10 years ago, while sorting through the belongings of her grandmother, who had just passed away. Soon after, she attended the Farm Chicks Antique Show for the first time. It was the first year the Farm Chicks show was held in Fairfield, and Hollie says her jaw hit the floor.

“I was like, ‘Oh my gosh. I have to do this,’” she says.

The next year, she and Jennifer were vendors.

When the Farm Chicks took a break from hosting the show in 2007, Hollie and Jennifer looked at their inventory and realized they had enough to organize their own vintage-goods sale. The Funky Junk Antique Show was born.

The show has bounced from Spangle to Sagle and Sandpoint, Idaho. This weekend it will be held at the Irish Dance Grange Hall north of Spokane for the second time, a spot Hollie calls a “perfect” location.

There will be 17 vendors, including Hollie and Jennifer, Junebug Furniture & Design (remember their Mad Hatter sale last fall?), Two Women Country Chic (you’ve probably been to their Barn Bazaar ), Bizi Furniture Etc. (who I mentioned last fall and always enjoy running into at the antique shows), Dahlia Jewelry and more.

“That’s big for us,” Hollie says. “We’ve smooshed our little grange full.”

Past Funky Junk shows have drawn 300 to 500 attendees, but Hollie thinks the crowd could be larger this year thanks to a nice buzz on their Facebook page and new blog and the energy of the other vendors, who have been inviting their followers.

Hollie’s sister, Heidi Jantz, is a singer and will perform during the show. Heidi also designs the show’s advertisements.

Can’t make it this weekend? The Funky Junk Antique Show will be held again on Labor Day weekend in Sandpoint, where Jennifer lives.

Here are more details about this weekend’s show:

It will run Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Irish Dance Hall Grange, 15 minutes north of Spokane off Highway 2. (Take Highway 2 north, turn right on the Elk-Chattaroy Road, veer right onto Big Meadows Road and go 3 miles. Follow the Funky Junk signs.)

Admission is $2 (kids 12 and under are free) and is good for both days.

There will be mini train rides for young kids.
