Buttercuppity Fabric store to close
Buttercuppity Fabric, the darling shop in Steam Plant Square that we’ve been watching grow here on Dwell Well since it opened earlier this year (and since it was just an idea before that) will shut its doors.
Owner Ari Rooney announced the decision on her blog today.
If you’ve never been to the shop, you might first assume the poor economy did them in. But if you’ve visited the cheerful store, you know that the place always seems to be buzzing with customers and sewing classes. Ari and her husband, Michael, confirmed on their blog today that business has been good—
very
good—making their decision to shut down the fabric side of their operation even more difficult.
Ari became aware of some serious health problems over the last few weeks and has decided (wisely so) to put her phsyical well being ahead of her business dream. Her blog post provides more details about that.
She will continue to make and sell her original handmade treasures (which I discovered for the first time at last summer’s Latah Variety Market ) via the Buttercuppity Designs Etsy shop .
The Rooneys will be selling the contents of their brick-and-mortar store at 40 percent off retail prices. That means about $5.50 per yard for some really beautiful and unique fabric. All fixtures and decor must go, too.
If you live in the Spokane area, visit 159 S. Lincoln St., Ste. 165, to help the Rooneys clear out their inventory. They’re closed Monday, but will be open at 10 a.m. Tuesday (I’m guessing there will be a crowd).
If you’re reading this from outside the area, you can make purchases via their online store .
Here’s to a speedy recovery and smooth transition to the Rooneys’ next chapter. And let’s hope Ari keeps entertaining us with her sharp wit and honesty on the Buttercuppity blog .
