You should totally do the Dav.
When Eric and I got married we spent our wedding night in a room at The Davenport Hotel .
Through the years we’ve popped into the Peacock and Safari rooms for drinks, met friends for coffee in the lobby, strolled the mezzanine during Christmas Tree Elegance, attended fund-raisers and taken photos by the fountain.
Then last month, for our 5-year wedding anniversary, we made a return overnight visit, but this time stayed in the Tower because I wanted to share space with one of those awesome animal-print chaise lounges. (It was as over-the-top as I’d imagined and I totally want one in my house now.)
We spent the entire weekend downtown, acting like tourists (but tourists who know how to navigate one-ways, find a good drink and a public restroom). By Monday morning we’d realized there’s no reason to scoot to Seattle or Portland or wherever for an escape – we can do a Spokane staycation any time, without blowing gas money.
From the moment we walked into the lobby we felt like we were someplace else. It was cool and quiet and completely removed from the city street bustle. The staff was incredibly professional and gracious, and the room was approachably elegant.
We met friends for drinks in the Safari Room bar Friday evening then headed out for a night on the town. In the morning a friend and I (she was staying across the street at the Lusso) headed to Riverfront Park to run the Spokane Indians Baseball 8k Pennant Race before Eric and I had breakfast in the Safari Room’s restaurant.
Speaking of breakfast … OMG … Breakfast Flatbread where have you been all my life? Seriously, had I not been there to celebrate my already-wedded bliss, I probably would have asked that flatbread to marry me.
Saturday night, after yet another night out and about downtown, a group of friends met up in the Peacock Lounge for drinks and dessert – do yourself a favor – order the Davenport Sundae.
Then, on Sunday morning, Eric and I brought Kegan down to the hotel for breakfast – seriously, I could not get that Breakfast Flatbread out of my mind and wanted to pass on the appreciation to another generation.
The weekend was amazing. And decadent. And delicious. And right here in our own backyard. Plus, we discovered the Davenport Hotel and Tower have awesome lunch , dinner and happy hour specials that make a micro-mini-escape super cheap and easy. Oh, and your valet parking is free when you spend $10 on food and drinks!
So even if you can’t do an overnight or a weekend, you can easily give yourself a couple hours’ swanky respite in a place that feels nothing like home, but is smack dab in the middle of your everyday life.
