Just put one foot in front of the other …
I don’t know about you, but when it comes to resolutions, I gotta have a specific goal in mind or forget it. Actually, I need to have lots of goals … mini goals that stair-step me right on up to my pie in the sky. Or is that just my short attention span talking?
Last year I set a goal to run the entire Bloomsday course without stopping. And I almost succeeded. I had to walk the final 27 steps of Doomsday hill (I’m a step counter … that is just my OCD talking), but ran the rest. Those 27 steps have haunted me all year.
So this year, among many other things, I have resolved to participate in one organized run each month, leading up to a full-run Bloomsday and stumbling on to the Windermere Half-Marathon, the Seattle Rock ‘n’ Roll Half and finishing up with the Valley Girl Triathlon. Last year I missed registration for the Seattle RnR and the Valley Girl. I’m already registered for both this year, taking care of yet another resolution … stop talking and start doing!
My resolution begins tonight, with the First Night 5k (which technically happens in December, but I’m counting it as my January run because it’s my life and I can wiggle the rules where ever I see fit). And, to make me feel oh so much better about myself, an email from the Bloomsday folks just popped up in my inbox. REGISTRATION IS OPEN!!! Everyone who registers before Feb. 13 will be entered to win an iPad, and there are plenty of other incentives for registering online.
Click here to jump to the Bloomsday registration page.
Seriously. What are you waiting for?
Happy New Year, friends … Keep on truckin’!
