A clean desk is a sign of a dirty mind or something like that

Tricia Jo Webster

It starts with an, “I’ll put this away later,” as you dash off to yet another inane strategic planning session, and snowballs from there. Soon you’re spelunking for the keyboard and offering a hardhat to anyone who has to come within a 5-foot radius of your desk. Good-bye workspace, hello disaster zone.

Hey, we get it. Who has time to worry about tidying up after themselves when there are meetings, coffee breaks and three-martini lunches to attend? It’s much more efficient to keep everything within arm’s reach, so it’s right there just in case you need it. Plus, let’s face it, a messy workspace gives off an “I’m totally overworked” vibe.

January is National Get Organized Month. January 11 was National Clean Off Your Desk Day. Who knew? Fabulocity wants to commemorate these occasions with an illustrative photo collection. But we need your help. Send us photos of your gnarly workspace – whether it’s a desk, the cab of a truck, a locker, a garage or a kitchen counter — wherever your “day at the office” is spent. Bonus points for fuzzy foods and evidence of rodent infestation. Include a short explanation as to how things got so out of hand, and give us your name, hometown and email address (if you don’t think it’ll get you canned, tell us where you work, too).

This little contest runs through January 21. Photos will be judged by a team of dirty-desk dwellers who fully appreciate the genius of creative clutter. Winner gets a limited-edition 7 beach towel, which, when used properly, provides instant clutter camouflage … it’s all about draping.

Photos (jpgs only please) can be uploaded here or emailed to spokane7@spokane7.com . Photos that are obscene, defamatory, threatening, off-topic, an infringement of copyright or an invasion of privacy will be deleted. Read our full forum standards and community guidelines .
