A local newsletter with green tips
For the last several months, I’ve been receiving SNAP’s bi-monthly Living Green newsletter, and it occurred to me today that you all might enjoy seeing it, too.
You’ve probably seen the SNAP logo around town and read about the agency in the paper. SNAP is best known for helping low-income families cover their heating bills, but the agency offers a variety of services, including running home improvement programs to keep houses safe and functional and connecting families with affordable housing.
SNAP also has a Living Green program that, as the agency puts it, helps people make choices that reduce their impact on the environment and “move us in the direction of a sustainable lifestyle—one that is healthy, ecologically sound, economically viable and socially just.”
Sounds good to me.
You can visit the Living Green website anytime for
green tips
, such as
how to clean your home with natural, homemade cleaners
, and information about upcoming classes. Past class topics have included organic gardening and composting.
I also recommend subscribing to the Living Green newsletter to read about current events and local issues, to see a calendar of upcoming sustainability events in Spokane and to pick up even more eco-friendly advice. It’s not all dry, policy talk. I remember an article from last winter that suggested throwing a progressive holiday party and serving healthy, homemade food (recipes included).
If your inbox is anything like mine, you probably aren’t thrilled about packing it with yet another regular e-mail. But SNAP’s Living Green newsletter is worth a read.
